Two College of Central Florida (CF) student publications were honored at the Florida College System Publications Association (FCSPA) annual conference on April 1 in Ybor City, according to a CF press release on Tuesday.

“In the Write Mind,” a literary magazine published annually by students on CF’s Citrus campus, took second place in the “Poetry Magazine” competition.

Three student writers on the Citrus campus were also recognized for their contributions: Katherine Egge for her piece, “Unbound”; Jaden Matthew for his piece, “2020”; and Jeilanie Polania for her piece, “One Thought.”

The publication also won a third place “Art Magazine” award for Kaitlyn Pace’s art submission, “Psychedelic Garden at Night.”

“The Patriot Press,” CF’s online student newspaper, earned an honorable mention award and former editor Lauren Gillyard received the “Best Arts Review” award for her review of the Appleton Museum.

Current co-editors of the “Patriot Press,” Lexia Thomas and Sarah Toms, both earned awards: Thomas placed second in the editorial category for her piece on Bright Futures scholarships, while Toms placed third in the on-site photo contest.

Additionally, Zack Cote, CF communication instructor and advisor for “Imprints,” the Ocala campus literary magazine, was elected incoming FCSPA president during the conference, according to college officials.
