Woman dies, three injured in NE Marion County crash

A 34-year-old Holiday woman died and three others were injured as the result of a traffic crash on Feb. 12 in northeast Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.

According to an FHP press release, the crash occurred around 6:53 p.m. at Northeast 160th Avenue Road and Northeast 220th Avenue.

The release stated that a 29-year-old Citra man was driving a pickup truck southbound on Northeast 160th Avenue Road as a 36-year-old Fort McCoy man drove a pickup northbound on the same road, with the victim and a second passenger in the vehicle. 

The southbound vehicle “crossed over the double yellow center lane lines traveling into the northbound lane” and both vehicles swerved in the same direction.  The front right of the southbound pickup truck collided with the front of the northbound pickup truck, according to the release.

Both truck drivers, who were both wearing seat belts, were seriously injured. A 51-year-old man from Fort McCoy, who was a passenger in the northbound pickup truck, wore a seat belt and had minor injuries, the press release stated. 

Marion County Fire Rescue transported the occupants of both vehicles to a hospital, where the victim was pronounced deceased.

According to preliminary data at the FHP Crash Dashboard at flhsmv.gov, there have been three traffic fatalities in Marion County from Jan. 1 to Feb. 5.
