Two die in head-on collision in East Marion County

A head-on collision in east Marion County early April 22 claimed the lives of both drivers, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.

The crash occurred on State Road 40 near State Road 326 around 1:53 a.m., according to an FHP press release.

A sedan traveling west on SR 40 “failed to negotiate a curve to the right and crossed over the centerline” and “struck (an SUV) head-on in the eastbound lane. The sedan was engulfed in fire according to the press release.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at a hospital.

Further identification of the drivers was pending as of noon Wednesday. There were no passengers in either car, according to the press release.
