SunTran launched a new bus route Monday, Aug. 3. The new express route will run alternately with the existing Silver route and will operate Monday through Friday, departing and returning from the Downtown Train Station between 8:20 a.m. and 5:35 p.m., with four trips during this time frame. Standard bus fares apply.

This trial route will be operational for six months to provide public transportation to health and human service offices, with stops at the Sheriff’s Operations Center, 948 NW 30th Ave.; Saving Mercy, 3601 W Silver Springs Blvd.; The Centers, 5664 SW 60th Ave.; and ACCESS Florida (formerly the Florida Department of Children and Families), 3895 SW 13th St.

“We’ve heard the community’s request to provide routes to these important resource offices,” said Steven Neal, SunTran transportation manager. “By augmenting an existing route, we can evaluate a cost-effective way to fulfill a transportation gap identified by residents.”

SunTran will assess the route at the end of the six-month period to determine if there is enough community engagement to continue the new route. For more information, please contact the SunTran at 352-401-6999 or visit https://www.suntran.org/home.
