Poet’s Corner-May 27, 2022
Every Friday, James Blevins, this newspaper’s in-house reporter and poet—who has seen his work previously published in “Salt Hill Journal,” “Pretty Owl Poetry,” “Stoneboat Journal,” “Mud Season Review” and “AZURE,” as well as numerous other outlets both online and in print—chooses one poem for publication.
Additionally, Blevins will share a poem of his own, just for good measure, at the end of each calendar month.
I Say This Warmly
By James Blevins
because
today
I woke
rosy-cheeked,
embraced
by the
sun and sky.
And dogging
at my feet,
pushing itself
into each morning
footfall, a
single word:
try.
James Blevins was born in Oak Harbor, Ohio, in 1981. He is an award-winning poet and journalist who graduated from the College of Central Florida in 2017. Bitterzoet Press published his first chapbook, “What Nature Keeps Secret,” in 2018. Blevins is currently working on a new collection of poems he hopes to share with the world one day—or at least share with his parents, relatives, coworkers and friends who haven’t unfollowed him on Facebook yet.
