Pedestrian dies following crash in SE Marion County

A pedestrian walking in a southeast Marion County roadway was struck and killed the night of Feb. 8, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was “walking north crossing the eastbound lanes of travel of County Road 484” just east of Southeast 47th Avenue when struck by an SUV traveling eastbound on the roadway, according to an FHP press release.

The press release stated that the SUV driver, a 47-year-old woman from Ocklawaha who wore a seat belt and was uninjured, “was not able to see” the victim and stopped in the median following the crash. 

A witness stated the victim was “walking north on County Road 484 across the eastbound lane of travel,” the press release stated and “the witness advised that the collision occurred in the left lane of the eastbound lanes of travel.”

The victim was transported to HCA Florida Hospital and declared deceased at 9:23 p.m., according to the release.

The  FHP Crash Dashboard at flhsmv.gov indicates there have been three traffic fatalities from Jan. 1 to Feb. 5,according to preliminary data. In 2025, there were18 pedestrian deaths in Marion County and 84 traffic fatalities overall.
