A two-car crash in Silver Springs Shores on April 19 claimed one life and injured three others, one critically, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.
The crash occurred around 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of Pine Road and Hemlock Road. According to an FHP press release, a 2021 Infinity sedan driven by an 18-year-old man of Ocala was traveling north on Pine Road, approaching the intersection with Hemlock Road, as a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 38-year-old Ocala man, traveled west on Hemlock Road.
The Hyundai entered into the intersection as the Infinity was traveling through the intersection at the same time. This caused the front end of the Infinity to collide with the left side of the Hyundai in this intersection. The Infinity traveled northeast after the crash, colliding with a utility pole and a metal property fence before coming to a stop. After the collision, the Hyundai traveled northwest rotating to final rest on the west grass shoulder,” the press release stated.
The driver of the Hyundai, who was wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and was critically injured. The right front passenger in the Hyundai, a 47-year-old Ocala woman, who wore a seat belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene, the press release stated.
The driver of the Infinity and a 21-year-old passenger, both of whom wore seat belts, had minor injuries, the press release indicated. All of the injured occupants were taken to a hospital.
According to the FHP Crash Dashboard at flhsmv.gov, there have been 23 fatalities on Marion County roadways through April 16 of this year.
