Men die in motorcycle, tractor crashes in Marion County

A 68- year-old Ocala man died May 23 as the result of a motorcycle crash in East Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.
The crash occurred around 1:05 p.m. as the victim traveled westbound in the outside lane on Maricamp Road near Locust Place. “The motorcycle overturned on its left side and continued westbound until it came to final rest in the outside lane,” the release stated.
The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to the press release.
A 56-year-old Anthony man died Saturday when the tractor he was operating to maintain a dirt road overturned, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The FHP press release stated the fatality occurred as the tractor was operated on Northeast 21st Avenue Road around 6:55 p.m. The tractor “went over a steep embankment and overturned,” the press release stated.
The man was pronounced deceased on the scene by workers with Marion County Fire Rescue.
The FHP Crash Dashboard at flhsmv.gov states there have been 34 traffic fatalities in Marion County from Jan. 1 through May 13, according to preliminary data.
