Man dies in single-vehicle crash in east Marion County

A 51-year-old Ocklawaha man died Saturday, May 31, as a result of a single car crash in east Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

According to an FHP press release, the crash occurred around 10:36 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 450 and CR 42 in Umatilla, when the SUV the man was driving north on CR 450 “failed to stop” at a stop sign at CR 42.

“(The SUV) exited the roadway of County Road 42, traveling onto the north grass shoulder, where its front collided into an amber warning sign. (The SUV) continued north on the shoulder, where its front collided into a standing tree,” the press release stated.

The victim was transported to HCA Ocala Regional Hospital, where, shortly after arrival, he was pronounced deceased, according to the press release.

The FHP Crash Dashboard at flshmv.gov states that from Jan. 1 to May 24, preliminary information indicates there have been 26 traffic fatalities in Marion County. The data indicates 10 people died as the result of motorcycle crashes and nine fatalities were pedestrians.
