Due to a lack of available volunteers for this weekend, the Silver River Museum at Silver Springs State Park will be closed both Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8. If volunteers cannot be found for a second weekend, museum Director Scott Mitchell said the museum will close indefinitely due to a lack of staffing.

“This is not our first choice” Mitchell said. “But we cannot have the museum open some weekends and closed others, depending on whether there are volunteers to work.”

He said the reluctance of our volunteers to work is related to a general worry about COVID-19, and also the fact that some visitors have not been wearing their masks properly once they enter the museum.
