Gallery: Awning mural installed at the Brick City Center for the Arts

Mike Zeak of Zeak Technique, top, and Brian Lemirand of the City of Ocala, top right, are reflected in the windows as Scott Vosburgh of the City of Ocala, bottom center, looks up as they install awning art panels at the Brick City Center For The Arts on Southwest Broadway Street in Ocala, Fla. on Friday, July 16, 2021. The 10 art panels, which make up the awning mural, were commissioned by the City of Ocala Cultural Arts and Sciences Division and were painted at the Magnolia Art Xchange by artist Nichole Westfall of South Charleston, W.V. The title of the awning art is “Weekend Plans.” According to a press release from the city: Westfall’s design features a whimsical monochromatic evening pond scene with frogs and humans which blends Ocala’s background and eco-tourism. Magnolia Art Xchange provided an artist-in-residence studio to facilitate the painting process. The panels will be installed into the awning on the newly refurbished Brick City Center for the Arts building, home to Marion Cultural Alliance (MCA). Nichole was selected by a panel of community stakeholders through a national call to artists. A future call to artists will be issued biennially to update the panels.
