Double homicide in Ocala
Ocala Police Department officials report that a woman and her child were killed and a man later committed suicide.

On the evening of Feb. 10, officers with the Ocala Police Department responded to a call about possible gunshots at a condo complex in southeast Ocala. They discovered two bodies.
On the morning of Feb. 11, OPD hosted a press conference. A subsequent post on the agency’s Facebook page provided some details about what happened.
“Last night, at approximately 9:16 p.m., Ocala Police received a 911 call from the Marion Springs Condominiums located at 3575 SE Ft. King Street. The call reported possible gunshots heard from a neighboring unit within the complex. Officers responded to the scene and found a tragic situation inside one of the units. Inside, they discovered the bodies of 34-year-old Nancy Bacon and her 4-year-old daughter, both of whom had been shot and killed,” the post noted.
“Witnesses informed officers that following the gunshots, they saw the adult victim’s estranged husband, 38-year-old Ralph Bacon, leaving the complex in a dark-colored SUV with North Carolina license plates. A region-wide BOLO was immediately issued for both Ralph Bacon and the vehicle as persons of interest in this case. Shortly thereafter, the suspect’s vehicle began hitting license plate readers, indicating it was heading north toward the Florida/Georgia border,” the post continued.
The post further noted that Georgia authorities were contacted and the vehicle was located on I-95 approximately 7 miles north of the Florida line. The Kingsland Police Department, in Kingsland, Georgia, conducted a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle, during which Ralph Bacon shot and killed himself inside the vehicle.
“This is an ongoing investigation, and our detectives are actively working at both scenes in Florida and Georgia to obtain more answers and better understand the circumstances that led to this horrific tragedy,” the OPD post stated. “Our hearts are with the family, loved ones and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence. The loss of Nancy Bacon and her young daughter is devastating, and we extend our deepest condolences to all who knew them.”
