The Kingdom of the Sun Doll Club of Ocala is trying to attract new members through programming.

Despite the club’s 35-year history, it had gone nearly dormant according to the club’s president, Sarah R. Hayward.

“The club was in a coma for a while and I am trying to bring it alive again,” wrote Hayward.

Currently, it has 19 members, but it’s looking to grow and become a fun and educational platform for people to love and collect dolls.

One of the ways that the club plans to diversify its offerings is by hosting lectures and workshops. In addition, the club is exploring the possibility of holding fundraising events.

The club has organized a lecture by Alan Scott Pate about the lost Japanese friendship dolls of 1927, for June 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Marion County Public Library located at 2720 E. Silver Springs Blvd., FL 34470.

There is no charge to attend and refreshments will be served. Due to limited seating, Hayward asks those who plan on attending to RSVP to her email address, [email protected] or by phone 908-399-1341.
