Citrus Springs man dies in Ocala crash

A 54-year-old Citrus Springs man died Aug. 30 following a two-vehicle crash on southwest State Road 200, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred around 8:43 a.m. at the intersection of SR 200 and Southwest 140th Street.

According to an FHP press release , an SUV driven by a 22-year-old Dunnellon woman with a 1-year-old girl, also of Dunnellon, as a passenger, was traveling west on Southwest 140th Street as it approached the intersection with SR 200 and “failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, causing a collision” with an SUV operated by the victim, which was traveling north on SR 200.

The press release stated it was “unknown” if the Dunnellon woman, who was seriously injured, wore a seat belt, while her passenger, who was restrained, was not injured. Both occupants were transported to a hospital

It was unknown if the victim, who was pronounced deceased at HCA Florida Hospital Ocala, wore a seat belt, according to the press release.

According to FHP Crash Dashboard preliminary data at flhsmv.gov, from Jan. 1 through Aug. 18 there have been 46 traffic fatalities in Marion County.
