Bird of the Week: Glossy ibis

The glossy ibis is much less common than our familiar white ibis but it’s always a treat to see one, especially in light that shows off their iridescent colors. These birds are thought to have migrated from Africa to North America in the early 1800s. John James Audubon reported seeing one in Florida in 1832. This one was photographed on the Ocklawaha Prairie, one of the places where they are more commonly spotted. (Photo: MichaelWarren.com)
