Motorcycle crash claims life

A 50-year-old Penobscot, Maine, man died as the result of a single vehicle motorcycle crash in southeast Marion County on March 3, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.

According to the FHP press release, the cyclist was traveling north on U.S. Highway 301 in the left lane near County Road 42 when, around 11:28 p.m., the motorcycle “failed to maintain its lane, striking a concrete curb. The motorcycle lost control and overturned, coming to final rest within the center median of US 301.”

The press release indicated the victim was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital on trauma alert and was later pronounced deceased.

The man was not wearing a helmet according to the release.
