Turtles, sharks and manatees. They all rove the sea. The folks at the Rainbow Springs Art in Dunnellon gallery are inviting members of the public and artists to capture a sea creature or two with paint, clay, wood, metal, photography or any other medium for entry in the “Creatures of the Sea Community Art Show.”
The exhibit will run from July 5-31. A “Muffins and Mimosas” brunch reception is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 5.
Drop off for art is July 1-2. The fee for non-gallery members is $20 for one entry and $30 for two. The pieces are to be no larger than 18 inches by 24 inches. Any entries that will hang on walls should be held up by wire.
“One of the vital elements of Florida is its connection to the oceans, lakes and waterways,” said Rowena Murillo, the gallery’s classroom coordinator and an artist and writer. She urges people to create art that is “about your interpretation of wonderful water creatures.”
She also refers to inhabitants of the watery world as both “beautiful” and “mysterious.”
Those attending the exhibit will be asked to vote for their favorite piece and a $150 People’s Choice Award will be given.
The nonprofit gallery is at 20826 Walnut St., Dunnellon. The hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
