23 positive tests in schools last week, 176 quarantined

There were 23 positive COVID-19 tests among students and employees in the Marion County Public Schools for the week of Oct. 23-29, with 176 people quarantined for having direct contact with someone who tested positive.

Those who tested positive for COVID-19 included 18 students and five employees at 16 schools and one administration office, said Kevin Christian, school district spokesman. That resulted in 234 students and 18 employees being quarantined by the Florida Department of Health.

The schools impacted by positive COVID-19 cases were Anthony Elementary, Belleview High, Eighth Street Elementary, Forest High, Fort King Middle, Hammett Bowen Jr. Elementary, Lake Weir High, Maplewood Elementary, Marion Techical College, Osceola Middle, Vanguard High, Ward Highlands Elementary and West Port High.

The Exceptional Student Education and Technology and Information Systems departments was also impacted by COVID-19.
