Who makes up the Ocala Gazette Editorial Board?
Question:
Who makes up the Ocala Gazette Editorial Board?
Answer:
The editorial board has consistently maintained three to six members, including the publisher. All members are journalists, some of which are not employed by the Gazette. All are committed to maintaining the code of ethics adopted from the Society of Professional Journalism and consider themselves public servants.
The editorial board issues opinions only when it feels a subject requires additional explanation due to the complexity of its nature or when there is a community need, sometimes of a sensitive nature, and someone needs to tackle starting the conversation.
Opinions are formed after research and debate until the group comes to a consensus.
The board holds its duty to Ocala Metro residents sacred. Their goal is always to deliver information that empowers the public to make informed decisions and, some days, hold power accountable.
“The press was to serve the governed, not the governors.”
– U.S. Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black in New York Times Co. v. United States (1971)
