Vanguard came out strong in its opening game of the Kingdom of the Sun tournament against West Port on Monday night with a convincing 63-41 win.

Sophomore D’Mareon Manning scored 10 points and dished four assists while senior Demetrius Watts contributed 10 points of his own for the Knights in the victory.

West Port junior Lillious Floyd scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds while senior Curtez Casey scored seven points and tallied 11 rebounds in the loss.

With the victory, Vanguard moves into the winners’ bracket and will play North Marion on Tuesday night, while the loss sends West Port to the consolation bracket to take on Wildwood on Tuesday morning.

The Kingdom of the Sun continues through Thursday night, where the champion will be crowned after the title game at 7:00 p.m.
