A circa 1920s photos shows Broadway Street looking west from what is now known as Southeast First Avenue. The photo shows a bustling scene along a wide, two-way road shared by early automobiles and horse-drawn carriages. [Marion County Clerk of Court collection]

Broadway is now a one-way road traveling east. Some of the same buildings are still standing, though the intricate architectural elements on some have been replaced by more modern design. One historic building that is gone is the two-story H.B. Masters Co. general store location. It was replaced by a new building that now houses Mark’s Prime Steakhouse.
