The statue of Chief Osceola is one of the iconic features of Silver Springs. The statue is seen in a 1965 photo when the site was home to the attraction that drew people worldwide to ride the glass-bottom boats.

Julia Woodward, the CEO of the Florida State Parks Foundation, looks at the statue of Chief Osceola at Silver Springs State Park in Silver Springs on Aug. 26. The statue shows its patina from almost 60 years in the Florida elements. The area is now the Silver Springs State Park, and while many of the attractions are gone, the statue and the glass-bottom boats remain. [Bruce Ackerman/Ocala Gazette]
