The view looking west on Ocklawaha Avenue, now Silver Springs Boulevard, from Orange Street, now Southwest First Avenue. The photo was taken on June 4, 1956, by the then State Road Department after completion of an unspecified project. [State Archives of Florida]
The same intersection is shown looking west on July 2. The road has become a main artery of the city and has expanded to four lanes with a wide median and sidewalks. In the distance is the overpass that extended the road past Pine and merged it with Broadway, which was once the historic main road into town. [Bruce Ackerman/OG]
