Suspicious death in Palm Cay

The Marion County’s Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death after responding to a well-being check at a home near Southwest 75th Terrace in the Palm Cay community on Friday afternoon, the sheriff’s office reported. 

Upon responding to the home, officers discovered a small fire in the home, which was extinguished by Marion County Fire Rescue.  

According to MCSO public information officer Sgt. Paul Bloom, the fire caused minor damage in the home.  

A deceased victim was also found in the home, and foul play is suspected, according to Bloom.  

MCSO is just starting its investigation and no other details were provided. The incident is believed to be isolated with no threat to the community, Bloom added.
