Many people are familiar with the First Friday Art Walk events that take place the first Friday of each month, from October through May, all around the Ocala downtown square. But a new added attraction is the Sunset Songs Series

On April 3, the band Perpetual Groove took the stage at Citizens’ Circle to add to the fun atmosphere created by numerous artists with works on display, dance groups and more.

According to materials provided by the city of Ocala prior to the event, the songs series highlights original music across multiple genres and features nationally touring and locally recognized artists. Perpetual Groove, which performs rock/indie electronica music, has toured across the U.S., internationally and appeared on Jam Cruise. Their latest release, “C’mon. Covers?” EP features reimagined tracks by Peter Gabriel, The Cars, The Go-Go’s and Johnny Cash.

After the evening was over, the city posted on its Facebook page (fb.com/ocalarecpark) that “Perpetual Groove lit up Citizens’ Circle tonight. Their signature blend of rock, funk and improvisational jam brought incredible energy to downtown Ocala and created a truly unforgettable atmosphere. Thank you to our amazing community for coming out, supporting live music and making Citizens’ Circle such a vibrant place to gather. Nights like this are what make Ocala special.”

The next First Friday Art Walk is set for May 1. The Sunset Songs Series performance will be by the band Feverdreams.

“Feverdreams is an indie heartland rock band blending atmospheric soundscapes, raw emotion and storytelling that lingers long after the last note fades. Known for their dynamic live energy and vivid, cinematic songwriting, the group crafts songs that feel both intimate and expansive, equal parts vulnerability and voltage. Feverdreams has built a reputation for immersive performances and a sound that pulls from indie rock, heartland storytelling and dreamy, modern alt-rock textures,” the city noted online.

The events run from 6 to 8 p.m. around the square and at Citizens’ Circle at 151 SE Osceola Ave. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs. There are a number of restaurants around the downtown area and many shops maintain later hours during these events.

Plan to attend in May as the series will take a break during the hotter months and then resume in October.
