Residential fire with injuries near Lamb Park

Ocala Fire Rescue and the Ocala Police Department responded to a residential fire near NW 9th Avenue and 11th Street in NW Ocala shortly before the midnight hour. The fire occurred at a home adjacent to Lamb Park. Multiple Marion County Fire Rescue ambulances were seen leaving the fire scene.
According to a media release from Ocala Fire Rescue, two residents were conscious at the time of removal and were transported to the hospital as trauma alerts, receiving treatment for smoke and flame exposure.
“Firefighters encountered a small, single-story residence with heavy smoke and flames emanating from the front of the house. Officers from the Ocala Police Department, initially dispatched for an unrelated call, were on the scene attempting to assist the residents in escaping the smoke-filled environment. The cries for help heard from the exterior propelled the urgency of the rescue efforts,” the release said.
“Firefighters entered the home to conduct a search and rescue operation. A minute after arrival, they located and evacuated one resident through the front door. A second victim, who was bed-bound, was discovered in a rear bedroom adjacent to the fire room. Firefighters who’d made entry worked with those in the exterior to safely remove the individual through the bedroom window, completing the operation within five minutes,” said the release.
Additionally, three Ocala Police Department officers were first on the scene were transported to the hospital for evaluation due to smoke inhalation.
“We are relieved to report that all three officers were released from the hospital shortly after being evaluated,” said a spokesperson for Ocala Police Department.
Ocala Fire Rescue says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
