Report: 15-year-old found with gun at school
A 15-year-old boy was arrested Friday, accused of bringing a firearm to North Marion High School, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The Gazette is not identifying the student due to his age.
Deputy Jon Allen, a sheriff’s school resource officer at North Marion, received information that a student was in possession of a loaded firearm.
Allen and the school’s assistant principal, Michael Fritch, removed the 15-year-old from class and escorted him to a teacher’s office.
Fritch began to search the boy’s backpack. The student became nervous and refused to allow Fritch to search his crossbody bag. Allen noticed the outline of a firearm inside the crossbody bag and immediately searched and found a loaded semi-automatic gun inside, according to reports.
The teen was arrested and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice. He was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and carrying a concealed weapon, according to reports.
