Despite a lull in demand and a drop in oil prices, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Florida started the week 2 cents higher than a week earlier. The AAA auto club said Florida motorists were paying an average of $3.60 a gallon on Monday, up from $3.58 a week earlier and $3.48 a month earlier. “Drivers will likely be happy to hear that they may soon get a break from rising prices at the pump,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a prepared statement. “The price of oil took a step back last week, enabling gasoline futures to drop 20 cents per gallon.” The national average price Monday was $3.65 a gallon, down a penny from a week earlier. The state’s lowest prices Monday were in the Panhandle, including an average of $3.34 a gallon in the Crestview-Fort Walton Beach area. By contrast, motorists in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area were paying an average of $3.77 a gallon.
