Police respond to disturbance at juvenile center

Ocala police officers responded to a disturbance at the Marion Juvenile Detention Center on Wednesday where several juveniles were reportedly rioting, according to OPD reports.

When OPD officers arrived at the center, at least eight teens between 14 and 18, were seen destroying items in a common area, reports state.

Several officers entered the common area and ordered the teens to lay on the floor. All the teens complied, according to reports.

The teens reportedly damaged four exit signs, a big screen television, a water fountain and several other items. The damage totalled more than $3,200, reports state.

The teens were all charged with rioting in a state correctional facility and criminal mischief. No one was injured.
