The Florida Highway Patrol was notified at 4:02 p.m. on Friday, July 14, that a small airplane had made an emergency landing on Interstate 10 in Suwannee County.
The press release stated that the Cessna 152 landed near the 275-mile marker.
Once FHP troopers, Suwannee County officials, sheriff’s deputies and Florida Department of Agriculture officers arrived on the scene, it was revealed that the pilot had made an emergency landing using the eastbound lanes of the interstate. The pilot, who was headed to Cross City, discovered that when he attempted to switch from one fuel tank to a second tank, a supply failure occurred, forcing the emergency landing, the release stated.
Once the plane landed, it was pushed to the center grass median until it could be refueled.
At approximately 6:22 p.m. the Interstate was closed in order for the plane to take off using the eastbound lanes.Records indicate the Cessna 150G model, a fixed wing, single-engine plane, is registered to a man from Greenwich, New York.
The release noted that, “Team work between local law enforcement agencies and alert motorist made the landing and subsequent take off of the Cessna 152 successful with no injuries or property damage.”
