A small plane crashed into Lake Weir at about 1 p.m., according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

At least one person was killed in the crash. It was not clear if there was anyone else on the plane. The sheriff’s dive team was searching the area for the wreck.

Witnesses posted on social media that the plane was a yellow bi-plane that went down on the north side of the lake.

“My husband and his friend were fishing and saw the crash and helped pull the man out of the water. Very sad prayers for his family” posted Linda Battle on Facebook.

Updates will be posted when available.
