Pedestrian struck and killed in Ocala

A 62-year-old man was struck and killed the night of Feb. 10 as he attempted to walk across West Silver Springs Boulevard, according to the Ocala Police Department.

Officers responded to the crash in the 1800 block of West Silver Springs Boulevard around 7:09 p.m., the OPD press release stated. Vernon Warren was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Warren was attempting to cross the roadway in a south direction from the Ghost Carwash and was not in a crosswalk or at an intersection. He was struck by a white 2013 Ford SUV traveling eastbound in the outside lane, according to OPD. The driver stopped at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, officials said on Feb. 11.
