Pedestrian dies after being struck by train in SW Ocala

A pedestrian died Sunday morning, March 15, after being struck by a train in southwest Ocala, according to the Ocala Police Department. 

OPD responded to the incident in the 500 block of Southwest 3rd Street around 7:53 a.m., an OPD press release stated.  

No identifying information about the victim was contained in the press release. 

“The deceased individual was struck by a train and succumbed to their injuries. There is no danger to the community. The investigation is ongoing and we will provide further updates as more information becomes available,” according to the release. 

The press release stated that Southwest 3rd Street, from South Pine Avenue to Southwest 7th Avenue, would remain closed “for several hours.”
