The Ocala Civic Theatre is holding open auditions for the musical “Million Dollar Quartet” on March 22-23 at OCT.

“Million Dollar Quartet” is a musical inspired by the famed recording session that brought together musical icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins on Dec. 4, 1956. The musical brings you inside the recording studio with four major talents and the producer who discovered them. The musical performance will include a score of rock ‘n’ roll hits, including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Walk the Line,” “Who Do You Love?,” and more.

OCT is looking to fill the following roles:

  • Elvis Presley: Guitar player, age 20-30
  • Johnny Cash: Guitar player, age 25-35
  • Carl Perkins: Lead guitar player, age 25-35
  • Sam Phillips: Non-singing, Non-musician, age 35-45
  • Dyanne: Singing, acting, age 25-35

All musicians auditioning for the roles of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins must be able to sing and play guitar, as well as provide their own instruments for the audition, rehearsals and performances.

Audition requirements are as follows:

Elvis Presley: “Long Tall Sally” (key: C major). Prepare two complete verses/choruses and a solo guitar chorus.

Johnny Cash: “I Walk the Line” (key: F major). Prepare two complete verses (one must be sung in the lower octave).

Carl Perkins: “Blue Suede Shoes” (key: A major). Prepare 2 complete verses/choruses and a solo guitar chorus.

Actors auditioning for Dyanne should prepare 32 bars from a song that demonstrates talent and range, while those auditioning for Sam Phillips will read from a script.

Auditions will take place March 22 and March 23 at 7 p.m. each night. It is only necessary to attend one night of auditions. Newcomers and theatre veterans alike are welcome to audition. If you are unable to attend the scheduled auditions, contact the theatre at 352-236-2274 about scheduling a separate appointment.

Callbacks will be held March 24, and rehearsals will be held April 5 – May 26, Monday through Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Ocala Civic Theatre.

OCT Artistic Director Katrina Ploof will be directing “Million Dollar Quartet”. Ploof most recently directed Talley’s Folly.
