OCT classes expand to second location
The Winter 2025 term will offer sessions for all ages at the theatre and the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place.

The Academy at Ocala Civic Theatre offers after-school classes, weekday classes for homeschooled students and weekend workshops. The Winter 2025 class term will begin the week of Jan. 6.
“We have classes for children (typically divided into ages 6-8 and ages 9-12), teens (ages 13-17) and adults (age 18+). To give focused attention to every student, we have a maximum of 15 students in most classes, with two qualified adults in the room at all times. This season, for the first time, we are offering classes at OCT and through Academy West at the Mary Sue Rich Community Center at Reed Place,” noted the media release.
The classes at OCT will include:
• For ages 6-8: Play Space: Creative Movement
• For ages 9-12: Theatre Unplugged
• For ages 9-12: Act Up: Homeschool Edition
• For ages 9-12: Act Up: Afterschool Edition
• For ages 13-17: Act Up: Homeschool Edition
• For ages 13-17: Pivot Improv: Teen Edition
Offerings at Academy West will include:
• For ages 6-8: Play Space: Act Now
• For ages 9-12: Theatre Unplugged
• For ages 13-17: The Studio: Stage Combat
A performance opportunity at the Academy West location, for ages 11-17, will be “James and the Giant Peach,” dramatized by Richard R. George from the book by Roald Dahl. This will be offered in collaboration with the Marion County Literacy Council as a non-tuition-based opportunity.
The winter class roster also includes workshops for ages 16 and older and “theatrix” classes for ages 18 and up.
