A 40-year-old Ocala woman died March 1 as the result of a two-vehicle traffic crash in northeast Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.

The crash occurred around 12:20 p.m. at the intersection of Northeast 36th Avenue Road and Northeast 40th Avenue Road.

An SUV driven by the victim and a pickup truck driven by a 68-year-old Ocala man both were traveling northbound on Northeast 36th Avenue Road. The victim stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Northeast 36th Avenue Road and Northeast 40th Avenue Road and the pickup “failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the rear of the SUV, the press release stated.

The force from the impact propelled the SUV across the intersection. It overturned and came to rest in the roadway, north of the area of impact,” according to the release.

The victim, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced deceased at a hospital and the pickup driver, who also was wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries. A 60-year-old female passenger in the pickup, who also wore a seat belt, incurred minor injuries, the release stated.

The FHP Crash Dashboard at flhsmv.gov states that, according to preliminary data, eight people have died in Marion County traffic crashes between Jan. 1 and Feb. 18.
