The Ocala Polo Club started its spring season on May 4. The season includes “action-packed” matches every Saturday through July 6, culminating in the Independence Cup.

Some of the most anticipated matches include the traditional Life’s a Beach Day and Throwback Day themes.

The Ocala Polo Club also offers tailgating reservations for the entire season or on a per-match basis.

The Ocala Polo Club traces its roots back at least 30 years but had gone dormant for 15 years before being revived in 2020 Dr. Lauren Proctor-Brown and her business partner David Eldredge. In an interview with Ocala Style magazine last year, Proctor-Brown indicated that polo is no longer just a game for the posh and, due in part to outfits like the Ocala Polo Club, the sport is more welcoming with people of all ages and backgrounds getting involved.

“We have players from all sorts of different backgrounds,” she said in the 2023 interview. “We have people who have been casual riders their whole life, as well as people who have never ridden, and even people who have competed at a high level in various other disciplines and find polo later at a different point in their life. It’s a fun sport.”
