Ocala Electric Utility is warning about a scam targeting their customers.

Several customers reported receiving phone calls stating they would have their power turned off within 30 minutes if they didn’t pay immediately over the phone.

“OEU will never call its customers demanding payment by prepaid card, credit card or debit card,” according to a press release from the electric company.

OEU made automated calls to customers starting Feb. 8 warning about the scam. OEU is also warning its customers not to engage the callers and not to turn over any financial or personal information. Customers can call 352-629-2489 for any questions or concerns regarding the scam.
