The Horse Capital of the World was buzzing with action from March 12-14, with the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s March sale of 2-year-olds in training.
During the sale, 447 horses sold for $66,487,600, according to an OBS news release.
In the third and final session, Hip No. 788, a daughter of Win Win Win, consigned by Ocala Stud, was sold to Donato Lanni, agent for Zedan Racing for $1.8-millon.
“The bay filly, who sped a quarter in a track record equaling :20 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of Unanimity, by Union Rags, from the family of grade one stakes winner Discreet Cat,” the release noted.
Earlier in the week, Hip No. 173, a son of Tapit consigned by Tom McCrocklin, agent for the Complete Dispersal for Lothenbach Stables, Inc., went to West Point Thoroughbreds /D J Stable /C J, LEB agent, for $1,200,000, the release stated.
Another big sale was Hip No. 601, a son of Authentic consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, agent, which went to Resolute Bloodstock for $1,000,000, according to the release.
For the entire sale, 447 horses grossed $66,487,600 compared with 464 bringing $71,473,500 in 2023. The average price was $148,742 compared with $154,038 last year and the median price was $75,000 unchanged from 2023. The buyback percentage was 25.1%; it was 20.7% in 2023, the release noted.
The massive OBS complex at 1701 SW 60th Ave., is right across the street from the Ocala International Airport, which accommodates a large amount of incoming and outgoing equine traffic. The OBS spring sale is set for April 16 through 19.
