Two of North Marion High School’s student-athletes signed collegiate letters of intent on Monday.

Senior golfer Ryan Letterly inked his name on a scholarship to play golf at Saint Leo University, while baseball player Matt Retamoza signed to play for Florida State College in Jacksonville.

Letterly won the 2021 MCIAC county tournament as well as the FHSAA 2A, District 8 tournament crown.

North Marion golf coach Marcus Rodriguez believes Letterly’s work ethic will prove invaluable at the college level.

“Ryan is an amazing kid,” Rodriguez said. “His passion for golf is something I have never seen. I couldn’t ask for a better kid and leader for this team.

While the state championship tournament didn’t end the way he would have hoped, Letterly is still thankful and excited for the next challenge.

“My whole family, I am so thankful for them and their support,” Letterly said. “My coaches were also so supportive.”

“I’m extremely excited to play at the next level,” Letterly added.

Senior Matt Retamoza signed his letter of intent to play collegiately at Florida State College in Jacksonville.

“I’m very excited to continue to play baseball at the next level,” Retamoza said. “I couldn’t have done any of this without my family, coaches, and teammates.”

Retamoza went on to thank his parents for their love and support.

“My parents have supported me on this journey and have made a lot of sacrifices to help me achieve this goal,” he added.

Dale Hall, Colts head baseball coach, praised Retamoza for his leadership and hard work.

“Matt has worked extremely hard for this opportunity,” Hall said. “FSJC is getting a good one. Matt works hard, he is humble, and he has good leadership skills.”
