Motorcyclist dies in early morning crash in SE Marion County

A 47-year-old Belleview man died early Monday, July 7, as the result of a crash in southeast Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
An FHP press release stated that the crash, which involved a motorcycle driven by the victim and a sedan driven by a 21-year-old Ocklawaha man, occurred around 2:55 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 25 and Southeast 108th Terrace Road.
Both vehicles were traveling east on CR25 with “the sedan approaching the slower moving motorcycle from the rear. The sedan struck the motorcycle’s rear section with its front section, which forced the motorcycle off the roadway,” according to the press release.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the sedan, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the press release stated.
According to preliminary 2025 data through July 5, at the FHP Crash Dashboard at flhsmv.gov, Marion County has had 34 fatalities, including one bicyclist and 11 motorcyclists.
