Marion County’s  COVID-19 cases climb, surpassing state’s numbers

COVID-19 cases are continuing to climb in Marion County, the Marion County Department of Health reported on Thursday.  

Marion County, which now reports a total of 13,462 cumulative cases, saw an additional 182 cases tacked on its total from Wednesday.  

According to the report, of the tests administered on Wednesday, 11.3% were positivesurpassing the State of Florida’s average. Across the entire state, 8.2% of Wednesday’s tests were positive.  

Over the span of the last seven days, Marion County averaged 102.4 new cases per day and a positivity rate of 9.8%Back in October and November, Marion County reported 37.2 and 70.6 new cases per day, respectively.  

Over the last seven days, Marion County is averaging one COVID-19 related fatality per day. This is compared to an average of 1.9 COVID-19 related deaths per day in October, and an average of one COVID-19 related death per day in November.
