The Florida Legislature’s Office of Economic and Demographic Research, in line with legislative intent to provide for uniform compensation of county officers having substantially equal duties and responsibilities, has issued 2024-25 uniform salary schedules pursuant to Chapter 145, Florida Statutes.

The formulas consider the population number of each county the officer serves. Marion County’s population was estimated at 403,966.

In 2009, the Legislature authorized district school board members and elected school superintendents to reduce their salaries voluntarily.  Then in 2011, the Legislature authorized county commissioners, clerks of circuit court, county comptrollers, sheriffs, supervisors of elections, property appraisers, and tax collectors to take voluntary reductions.

However, Marion County School District members’ salaries will be reduced from the statutory formula pursuant to Florida Statute 1001.395, which provides that the salary of each elected school board member be less than the district’s beginning salary for teachers who hold a baccalaureate degree. In Marion County, for the 2024-25 budget year, that starting teacher salary is approximately $50,000.
