Driver charged in connection to hit-and-run fatality

The Florida Highway Patrol has announced an arrest in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 76-year-old Ocala man who was struck while crossing an unlit portion of Southwest State 200 on Sept. 23.

Somer Lynn Fox, 32, of Seminole, was arrested Sept. 25 and charged with “failing to stop/ remain at the scene of a crash involving death,” according to an FHP press release.

The fatality occurred around 7:57 p.m. at the intersection of SR 200 and Southwest 60th Avenue, when a van traveling west in the right lane on SR 200 struck the victim “in a dark area with no lighting” as he pushed a cart full  of groceries north across the westbound lanes.

According to Marion County Jail online records, Fox was released Sept. 26 in lieu of $25,000 bond. Her next court date is Oct. 28.
