A group of locals founded HUGS (Heartfelt Unconditional Giving) Charities of Ocala/Cancer Alliance of Marion County to help provide financial, psychological and emotional support, and crucial reinforcements during chemotherapy, treatment and recovery, for those fighting cancer.

Through donations, HUGS has provided Marion County residents gift cards for groceries and gas, help with their utility bills and other assistance with daily life.

If you like dining and socializing in contemporary style, the organization’s annual charity event will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Bank Street Patio Bar & Grill, 120 E. Fort King St., Ocala. The “night of celebrating strength, perseverance and charity” includes hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine and a silent auction. Tickets are $75 per person.

All of the funds raised at the event will assist patients in Marion County. Funds provide financial assistance to those in need during cancer, as well as education and prevention efforts through the Cancer Alliance of Marion County.

As per tradition, a person affected by cancer and/or a local agency “truly making a difference” will be honored, which this year will be Ben Fritz & Gastroenterology Associates of Ocala.

Sponsorship opportunities for the event are available by emailing audrey@oak-anchor.com. To purchase tickets, go to HugsCharities.org.
