The Ocala Breeders’ Sales June auction kicked off on June 9 and runs through June 11. The sale is the last featuring 2-year-old thoroughbreds and includes a section of horse of racing age.

This year’s two-year-old sales season at OBS rebounded after a dismal 2020 that saw demand and prices for thoroughbred drop after the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

On June 9, a daughter of Practical Joke consigned by Top Line Sales sold for $425,000 to Gary Young as agent. The filly was the top-selling horse of the first session.

Another filly, this one a daughter of Uncle Mo and consigned by Julie Davies sold for $375,000 to Donato Lanni as agent.

For the session, 176 horses sold for $7,268,400, compared with 163 selling for a total of $5,037,800 during the 2020 first session. The average sale price was $41,298 up 33.6% compared with $30,907 a year ago.
