A Senate Republican on Thursday proposed scaling back a law that imposes a three-day waiting period on gun purchases in Florida. Sen. Jonathan Martin, R-Fort Myers, filed a bill (SB 1124) that would eliminate the waiting period on purchases of rifles and shotguns, leaving it only on purchases of handguns. The bill is filed for consideration during the legislative session that will start Jan. 9. Current law includes some exemptions to the waiting period, such as when guns are being purchased by people with concealed weapons licenses. The Legislature this year passed a bill that allowed people to carry guns without concealed weapons licenses.
