Fe Wood holds one end of the bamboo poles during the traditional Philippine Tinikling dance during festivities celebrating Philippines Independence Day, Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Blessed Trinity Parish Hall in Ocala, Florida. During the popular folk dance two people beat, tap and slide bamboo poles on the ground and against each in coordination with one or more dancers stepping over and in between the poles in a dance. The dance, as well as traditional music and food, were all part of the event commemorating the 123rd Philippines Independence Day. [Cyndi Chambers/Correspondent] 2021

The Filipino-American Association celebrated the 123rd Philippine Independence Day on June 12 at the Blessed Trinity Parish Hall in Ocala. The event included traditional food, music, dances and attire. The non-profit FAA was established 13 years ago to help promote and preserve Filipino-American cultural heritage. The group has almost 500 members mainly residing in Marion County.
