The Florida Department of Health in Marion County (DOH-Marion) and the Marion County Board of County Commissioners (Commission) are providing free breast cancer screenings to women in the community.

The partners seek to emphasize the importance of early detection in diagnosing and treating breast cancer.

The agencies have arranged for Mammolink, a provider of mobile mammogram services, to provide free 3-D mammograms on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the McPherson Governmental Campus, 601 S.E. 25th Ave., Ocala, FL 34471.

The event is open to all women regardless of insurance status. Participants do not need an appointment.

Staff from the Florida Department of Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program also attended the event to determine eligible women can enroll in the program.

The program, which is funded by the CDC, provides breast and cervical cancer screening exams, diagnostic funds for women with abnormal exams, care coordination to all clients with abnormal exams, and referrals to the Florida Medicaid Program for eligibility determination and paid breast and cervical cancer treatment through Medicaid for eligible women.

The early detection of breast cancer can significantly improve the chances of successful treatment.
