Do you have spring fever?
This time of year, it’s so easy to want to chop out old or winter-damaged plant growth, stick new things in the ground or sow seeds for a garden. And don’t get me started on thinking about adding a hot tub to that back deck or creating an outdoor kitchen.
But, if you’re like me, my “dreams” don’t always match up to my “reality.”
Well, here’s a chance to get some expert help. The 2nd Annual Ocala Big Bloom Home & Garden Show will bring together home improvement, outdoor living, landscaping and gardening ideas — and the experts who can bring them to life.
The event will take place April 24-26 at the World Equestrian Center at 1750 NW 80th Ave., Ocala. Visitors can expect to find a wide range of exhibitors offering everything from seeds and plants to mowers and edgers, and from kitchens to gardens and how to know a good bug from a bad one.
There is a full slate of Master Gardener seminars lined up, with topics such as birds, bugs, wildflowers, Florida-friendly landscapes, common plant problems and more.
The Rose and Garden Stage will offer presentations about growing roses, thornless roses, companion plants for roses, growing microgreens and other topics.
Guests can browse roses, vote for the best rose with the Rose Society and visit the Master Gardeners plant clinic for guidance on planting, maintaining and growing in Central Florida. Free classes are available – but pre-register online as space is limited.
- Fairy Garden Class – create a fairy garden while learning the basics of container gardening.
- Pinky Greens Kids Workshop – learn how plants grow, explore microgreens and plant seeds to take home.
Activities for children will include meeting an owl, building a birdhouse, free coloring books, a sunflower craft and more. Local rescue organizations will have animals for adoption in the Pet Zone.
Event giveaways include tote bags, 50 Lowe’s buckets each day and free Miracle-Gro Pour & Feed Singles. There will also be a chance to register to win a Weber grill.
And if all that isn’t enough to get your spring fever under control, there also will be plant and tree sales with orchids, palm trees, perennials, roses and annuals, as well as statuary and water gardens. And don’t skip shopping the Art, Gift & Gourmet aisles for treasures to give or keep.
There also will be builders, remodelers, contractors, building supplies, new gadgets, home tech, the latest in kitchen and bath, interior design ideas and more, along with just about everything to build the outdoor oasis of your dreams — and the landscaping experts to bring it all to life.
The show is free to attend and there is no fee for parking, courtesy of Spa Manufacturers. Show hours are noon to 6 p.m. April 24, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 25 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26.
